- Qualifications: An Expert Witness Nurse Consultant must be a registered nurse (RN). Request a curriculum vita AND proof of current registration.
- Experience: Solid clinical experience is most important. An Expert Witness Nurse Consultant needs to have a strong background in the subject matter. Some may have written reports for lawyers already.
- Education: An RN who has undertaken post-graduate study will have acquired writing skills and the ability to research the subject matter. Strong oral and written communication skills are vital. Peer reviewed publications are a great advantage because they ‘show’ writing ability together with knowledge of the subject matter.
- Professionalism: Passion is a fundamental element of professionalism and will drive the RN to excellence in their chosen field. Honesty and responsibility that you will detect in the Expert Witness Nurse either during discussion about your client and / or when you meet, is paramount. Professionalism is about personal ethics, quality work and a quality attitude.
- Involvement: This should include a demonstrated commitment to their particular field through involvement in national and local nursing / healthcare professional organizations and conference attendance. Some may be panel members of the Nurses & Midwives Board Tribunal.
