An Expert Witness Nurse Consultant is a registered nurse who uses existing expertise to report on the standard of nursing care plus additional training to consult on healthcare-related cases. I am a hospital trained general and paediatric nurse and my additional training
includes master’s degrees in nursing, public health, and health law and a PhD in Humanities
and Social Sciences.
Lawyers and paralegals will not necessarily know how to read hospital / medical / nursing records. They may not understand healthcare abbreviations and terminology but the Expert Witness Nurse Consultant can ascertain what is relevant and how, what appear to be, insignificant details, may be the hidden clue to the whole case.
An Expert Witness Nurse is not the same as a paralegal.
An Expert Witness Nurse Consultant may acquire some knowledge of the legal system through conference attendance with solicitors, or as a panel member of a Tribunal or by completing a post-graduate degree in health / law for example. However, I consider legal education to be a prerequisite to
the practice of Expert Witness Nurse Consulting.
As the Expert Witness Nurse Consultant, I will evaluate the case and give an informed opinion. This is accomplished through researching and combining knowledge of the case with literature reviews, guidelines, standards and regulations as related to the healthcare facts of the case.
If you would like to have a teleconference with me about a case, please phone or email me. I do
not charge for teleconferences.
